I was a journalist for the Tour de France in Yorkshire and was delivering half hourly news bulletins for Capital and Heart FM from the finish line of Stage 1 in Harrogate. I remember the huge gasp from the enormous crowd as Mark Cavendish crashed out of the race just yards from the finish line. Everyone was devastated as our British hope failed to finish in his mum's hometown of Harrogate.
