Jason McCartney: 2014, Le Tour in Yorkshire: Stage Two, York to Sheffield

“It’s hard to believe that it has already been a year since our Yorkshire Grand Départ of the Tour de France. Everything about that weekend was fantastic, but it wasn’t just the weekend itself. What really sticks in my mind is the buzz that was around in the weeks leading up to the day; there were red polka dots everywhere, yellow bikes on buildings and more cyclists attempting Holme Moss than I’ve ever seen!

On the day it came through Lindley, Honley and Holmfirth I was lucky enough to have a great spot in Holmbridge with my family. The weather held out and it was a real party atmosphere; everyone was in great spirits, cheering on the riders and just having a good time. It was great for the local businesses too who hugely benefited from those that came to enjoy God’s Own County for themselves.”

“I’m so pleased that we now have the Tour de Yorkshire event in May, and I was delighted that Sir Gary Verity was knighted for the immense effort that he and his team at Welcome to Yorkshire put into making it a weekend that we will never forget.”

At the time of writing his memory (2015) Jason McCartney was the M.P. for Colne Valley
