Bernard Thévenet: 1975, a Bastille Day triumph on the Col de l'Izoard

My favourite memory of Le Tour?

"Ascension de Col de L'Izoard 14 Juillet 1975"

Bernard Thévenet

Having overtaken five-time Tour winner Eddy Merckx on the previous Stage, the 15th, Bernard Thévenet increased his advantage on the Col de L'Izoard, winning the stage by over two minutes. He went on to win the Tour, from Merckx, by 2 minutes 47 seconds.

Bernard Thévenet, two-time winner of the Tour de France and known for ending the reign of five-time Tour champion Eddy Merck, shared a memory to support people living with dementia at the Eve of Tour dinner in Leeds Arena on the evening of Friday 4th July 2014. Our sincere thanks go to Leeds City Council for their help and support in making Le Grand Depart dementia friendly across the city
